Loja Welcomes the Virgin of El Cisne, a Beacon of Hope and Unity

On Tuesday, August 20, the city of Loja will be steeped in faith and devotion as it welcomes the revered image of the Virgin of El Cisne. Over 6,000 roses, donated by devotees from around the globe, will adorn the Cathedral of Loja, where the beloved "Churonita" will be received with great fanfare.

Loja is preparing for a grand celebration in honor of the Virgin of El Cisne, affectionately known as "La Churonita." This Tuesday, August 20, the city will become the stage for one of Latin America's most significant religious events, as the sacred image arrives following its pilgrimage from the sanctuary in El Cisne, which began on Saturday, August 17.

The excitement among the people of Loja is palpable. With hearts full of devotion, they are ready to receive the blessings that the Virgin's presence brings to their city. From the youngest to the eldest, residents have intensified their prayers and are eager to participate in this powerful display of faith and unity, which strengthens community bonds and delivers a message of peace.

Father Willan Arteaga, the pastor of El Sagrario Parish and rector of the Cathedral, has overseen the floral arrangements, emphasizing the importance of beautifying the church to honor the Virgin of El Cisne. "This year, we decided to create rose decorations for the three doors and the interior columns of the church. The presence of the Virgin in Loja symbolizes the presence of hope," Arteaga stated, urging the people of Loja to show kindness and hospitality to the pilgrims arriving in the city.

The celebrations won’t end with the Virgin’s arrival. Starting August 21, the church will open its doors at 5:30 a.m. for the first Mass of the day, with services continuing throughout the day. Additionally, the "Pilgrim Nights" event will take place on August 20 at 8:00 p.m. at the City Gate, featuring performances by various local and international artists who will pay tribute to the Virgin and the thousands of pilgrims accompanying her.
